FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AGENDA OUTLINED IN SPEECH FROM THE THRONEI am pleased to have this opportunity to share with you briefly some information on issues at the federal level of government.
The members of the Police Community Partnership – 12 Division are to be commended for their excellent work to help make our community a better place to live for all residents. The P.C.P. 12 is among the best organizations of its kind in our city and serves as an example of cooperation and concern.
Recently, the Federal Government outlined its agenda in the Speech from the Throne. Some of the highlights include:
• take decisive action on trafficking of human beings and to introduce measures to crack down on child pornography
• continued reduction of our nation’s debt
• 12 point plan for a globally competitive economy
• renewed our commitment to the Kyoto Accord
• increase our armed forces by 5,000
• modernize Canada’s Citizenship and Immigration laws
• introduce legislation to help not-for-profit organizations succeed
• increase the Guaranteed Income Supplement for those seniors most in needThese are but a few of the Government’s objectives for the coming session of Parliament.
