Please accept my congratulations on always producing an excellent report. It is widely read even beyond our community’s boundaries and I am delighted to be associated with it.
Your efforts to improve the many safety aspects have greatly enhanced our sense of security on our streets. Other communities are trying to emulate your success but unfortunately do not have your stamina and sense of purpose to follow your vision to conclusion. I am proud of your accomplishments and will continue to support you in whatever way I can.
As you may already know, the provincial government is in the process of privatizing “Hydro”. This act opened up the floodgates to dishonest so-called “energy salesmen” and other con artists whose main interest is to get you to sign a “Hydro-Contract” at high rates. I have produced an energy pamphlet which guards against fast talking crooks who even go so far as falsifying your signature just to get at your money. Please remember you also have a ten-day cooling off period to cancel any contract you have signed. Just in case you have any questions regarding the new Hydro mandate please feel free to call me.
In the next few months I will be addressing other issues of real concern to many of us, such as:
• Appeals to the “Assessment Review Board”, in order to fight ever increasing property taxes.
• A no-go decision on user-fees for business garbage disposal, which if implemented will seriously affect our small business operators.
• Helping teachers/educators to keep-up with excellence-in-education programmes – we need more textbooks in the classrooms and our school facilities are deteriorating rapidly.
• Developing a new green transportation corridor along our abandoned railway lines, which will include parkland and bicycle lanes for some of our residents.
• Rents have gone through the roof – many tenants will lose their homes if we don’t help them. There are many more issues of concern to our residents, some of which will be addressed in the upcoming parliamentary session. Please call me for updates.
I look forward to meeting many of you in your homes this summer. Together we will identify which issues affect you personally and which ones affect the whole community. You can be sure that I’ll bring these matters to the attention of provincial decision-makers.
My community office at 1359 Davenport Road is open for your convenience until 6 p.m. every weekday evening and Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. onwards. If I can be of some help, please feel free to contact me at 416-535-3158.
